Jake and I both grew up going to Lake Powell each summer with our families...and it is the place of some of our favorite memories! So, when we started having kids we tried to keep going each summer with them...but, it is not a great place for little ones...so, we haven't been back in about 6 years. This year we finally felt like maybe we could handle it and the kids would enjoy it, so we decided to go with the Clarks. We made it a short (3 day) and manageable trip and I can happily report that we all had a total blast! The weather was warm, the water was perfect and except for a few boat issues (really, what is a Lake Powell trip without a few boat issues???), it was a perfect getaway!
We spent most of our time swimming in the Lake with floaties and life jackets...we explored "Lizard City" (or, "wizard city", as Spencer called it) and jumped off some little rock cliffs.
We did a little tubing behind the boat...the kids aren't very daring yet, but Jenny and Candice were very entertaining! Doug and Jordan weren't too shabby either!
It was really fun to hang out with Jenny and Jordan and Candice and Doug...it keeps me feeling young...or maybe a little old...I don't know...but they were hilarious!
The girls thought sleeping up on the roof of the boat was the best...each night we told "scary" stories and watched the stars come out...I have to admit that sleeping on the roof is one of my favorite things about the trip too!
I'm sorry, but isn't my husband a hottie behind the wheel?? I love this guy!
Our boat was parked in the perfect spot for hiking and exploring. The boys went looking for gold (one of Jake's favorite pasttimes) and then Grandpa took Rylee and Will to find tadpoles...Rylee brought back 5 of them...it was love at first sight! Unfortunately, they quickly started dying and got thrown overboard...to say Rylee was devastated would be an understatement, she survived and we have moved on.
Here I am with my crazy hair...I have never mastered the fine art of having fabulous hair at Lake Powell...or the beach...or really anywhere else...it's a work in progress.
Happy to report that nobody got sunburned and we had a great time with all of the family...the last day we were there Holly and Sam and the kids came and Adam and Jess too...it was really great to spend time with everyone and we can hardly wait to go back next year!
